Zespri, the kiwifruit exporter that manages around 30% of global kiwifruit volume across more than 50 countries, had run a heavily customised SAP ECC system for almost 20 years alongside a web of bespoke .NET applications – a setup increasingly strained by the company’s growth, and facing a hard deadline as SAP ECC’s mainstream support was set to end in 2027.
Zespri moved to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, via RISE with SAP, adding SAP BW/4HANA, SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Business Technology Platform on Microsoft Azure – a phased transformation spanning supply chain, finance, quality management and integrated planning.
“The future of the world is cloud,” says David Scullin, Chief Digital Officer at Zespri, on the decision to move – a shift expected to save the business NZ$1 million over six years against a traditional infrastructure-as-a-service deployment.
