Namoi Cotton, Australia’s largest cotton processor, handles up to 1.6 million bales of raw seed cotton a year from its base as an ASX-listed public company. After three drought years and pandemic disruption limited budget for IT upgrades, the company’s core JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.1 ERP fell out of Oracle’s supported life, losing eligibility for security patches and bug fixes while remaining expensive to maintain.
New IT manager Jim Tolson built the case to upgrade to JD Edwards 9.2 and move off ageing on-premise hardware. After evaluating Azure and AWS alongside Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the team chose OCI, reasoning that Oracle applications would perform best on Oracle’s own infrastructure and operating system.
Working with Fusion5 and Oracle, Namoi Cotton completed the JD Edwards upgrade and OCI migration, moving off unsupported infrastructure and putting the company back on a version eligible for ongoing patches and support as it ramps production back up.
