Auckland Council faced significant operational disruption in 2010 when eight separate councils across the region merged into one organisation – rather than inheriting a system from any of the legacy councils, it opted for a brand-new SAP implementation to run the newly unified organisation.
Working with Accenture, the council built its SAP platform to deliver core services including building consents via SAP R/UX, and has since undertaken multiple contract renegotiations to keep costs down as the system has matured.
The result is a single platform supporting one of New Zealand’s largest public-sector organisations, in place since the 2010 amalgamation and still evolving today.
