Australia’s water storage information now on iPhone

The Bureau of Meteorology has launched a free water storage iPhone app…

The app gives iPhone users access to information for more than 250 publicly-owned water storages across Australia.

Deputy Director Climate & Water, Dr Rob Vertessy said that for the first time current Australia-wide water storage information is available from a single source.  Water storage levels and volumes can now be tracked for over 250 sites across the nation, with daily updates available for most of Australia’s urban and rural water supply systems.

Users can find how much water is available in Australia, their state, capital city and for individual storages, and can see current water levels by percentage or volume in megalitres (ML). They can also compare current levels to the previous calendar year, previous month, week or even the previous day.

The app is part of a series of new water information products that the bureau will deliver using the new Australian Water Resources Information System. It is a strategy to improve community understanding of Australia’s water availability, condition and use, and to inform decision making around the management of one of Australia’s most precious natural resources.
