DFAT awards ICT service desk contract to Fujitsu

Fujitsu has won a contract with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to manage and support the department’s ICT service desk known as the Global Support Centre.

The three-year contract is worth approximately $6 million and includes desktop support of the Secure Australian Telecommunications and Information Network (SATIN) environments, ICT Asset Management and licensing, Voice services, testing, desktop and VIP support. Fujitsu will be positioned as an integral part of DFAT’s ICT support team, providing a 24 hour, ITIL based service desk.

The contract is an opportunity for the department to transform the way in which services are provided to over 6,000 DFAT and supported Government agency staff around the world including VIP’s, diplomats and senior government officials.

After Fujitsu was selected as preferred tenderer in July 2009, the two parties embarked on a detailed set of contract negotiations to ensure the model of operation was covered in full.

Prior to this project, Fujitsu has worked with DFAT since 2004, managing a number of successful project engagements across the department, including the ICT fit out of overseas posts and embassies, bespoke application development of the Passport Appointment System and the secure hosting, support and enhancement of Passports Online.

DFAT’s SATIN technology includes Satin Low business network, Satin High diplomatic communications network, Satin Voice telephony network, a video conferencing network and the provision of WAN services to other agencies located in Australian overseas missions. SATIN has over 150 points of presence with 6,000 users around the world and is the largest Australian Government international network.
