One-year extension of IT infrastructure services contract valued at $70 million…
IBM has signed a one-year extension to its contract with government agency Medicare for the provision of IT infrastructure services.
Under the agreement, valued at approximately $70 million, IBM will continue to provide mainframe, midrange, desktop, data warehouse and call centre support.
IBM has worked with Medicare since 2000 and over that time has assisted the agency in transforming its service provision to Australian healthcare constituents. Examples include supporting Medicare Australia Online Services, in which viewers can view, update and request information held by Medicare Australia, and enhancing the delivery of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, whereby payments are made to pharmacists to subsidize certain essential medicines.
During 2007, IBM supported more than four million mainframe transactions and two million web e-business transactions each day as thousands of entities, including pharmacies, general practitioners, health insurers, hospitals and individuals, connected with Medicare to deliver improved health outcomes for Australia.
