New interactive portal allows heavy vehicles drivers and operators to plan their journey across the country…

Online digital mapping applications developer MapData Science Pty Ltd (MDS) has delivered an interactive mapping portal, commissioned by the National Transport Commission (NTC), enabling truck drivers and operators to plan their journey across the country and comply with transport regulations.

During a recent review by the NTC, operators were finding it difficult to plan routes for different vehicle classifications. They needed a service where they could visualise the entire country’s road network, highlighting the capabilities of the roads.

The map portal includes four levels of classification highlighted by colour on the road network, including the ability to zoom down to street level. The portal will eventually allow operators to easily plan and select the best route for moving their freight across the country, pin pointing the pickup and delivery address.

In the future the portal will also provide additional features and detail on rest stops, weighbridges, refuelling areas and other truck related information that MDS has available.
