Telstra smartphone insurance

Telstra is offering insurance plans for its smartphone users that includes cover up to $800 in calling charges on stolen devices…

“Last year, Aussies reported almost 200,000 lost or stolen mobiles to telcos,” said Telstra’s Nick Ruddock said in a post today. “The figures equate to 3,300 each week or one mobile phone handset every three minutes”.

“We’ve partnered with CGU Insurance to introduce a new product called Telstra Premium Care – Mobile Insurance that gives customers the comfort of knowing they are protected if it’s stolen, accidentally lost, or accidentally damaged.”

The insurance is available for smartphone users on a postpaid for $14.95 a month (which covers “accidental loss, accidental damage and theft, and can also provide protection against mechanical or electronic breakdown or failure in some circumstances”), with cover also available for non-smartphone devices at $9.95 a month, which only covers users for “accidental loss, accidental damage and theft”.

Also included in the deals are priority access to emergency loan phones, priority repair at the national repair centre and handset replacement if a handset is repaired under warranty more than twice within a 24 month period since purchase.

Users can also access an annual handset health check service at selected Telstra Stores – one per year for Basic cover and two per year for Smart cover.
