Acer Computer Australia has won the Queensland Department of Education and Training tender to supply 65,000 3G-enabled notebooks for round three of the National Secondary School Computer Fund by the end of this year…

The Acer Aspire 1830T notebooks, which typically retail at AU$1,299, are being paid for by the federal government’s National Secondary School Computer Fund.

“Collaborative and mobile work places are common in today’s environment, and ensuring that our students are well equipped to face tomorrow’s demands is fundamental in that process,” said Charles Chung, managing director of Acer Computer Australia.

“Having access to information on demand and the best technology to process that information is important in helping develop today’s students,” Chung added.

He said that Acer was selected by the DET due to the light weight and the longer battery life of the 11.6-inch Aspire 1830T laptop.

The National Secondary School Computer Fund is designed to provide schools with new computers and other information and communication technology (ICT) equipment for all students in years 9 to 12.

The agreement between Acer and the DET will ensure that more than 60,000 state high school students in Australia have access to the DET’s online learning environment, said David O’Hagan, CIO at the DET.
