Napa Valley-based eWinery Solutions – which supplies technology to iconic Australian winemakers such as Penfolds, Lindemans and Wolf Blass – is decanting its solution for the NetSuite cloud…

Listed cloud computing specialist NetSuite has announced a deal with eWinery Solutions ,which will see the companies work together to develop VinSuite – a cloud-based system that will allow wineries to manage  both their direct-to-consumer sales which is eWinery’s specialty and broader wine making operations.

Following the merger of eWinery and Napa Valley POS in January this year, VinSuite will be constructed as a unified winery management system offering functions ranging from winemaking and vineyard management, through CRM and Business Intelligence, to online marketing and retail. It is intended to both replace the current eWinery and Napa Valley POS systems and attract new customers who are looking for a tailored solution to replace often home-brewed and fragmented computer systems to support their wine making businesses.

For NetSuite the deal provides it with an entrée to more than 500 existing eWinery and Napa Valley POS clients that will be encouraged to move to the new platform once it is released.

It also reflects the way that the cloud company operates – encouraging the development of a third party software application ecosystem which uses the NetSuite cloud platform and tools to build vertical market or point solutions for specific industries. NetSuite currently claims more than 16,000 businesses run on the NetSuite cloud.

The timing of the arrangement with eWinery seems apposite given the growing appetite for public cloud services, at least in developed economies – which tend also to be the major wine consumers. Figures released earlier this month by analyst Gartner indicate that 60 percent of organisations in North America plan to increase their spending on Software as a Solution or public cloud services in the next two years.

Gartner however noted that other regions remained more focused on using hosted applications – essentially private clouds – led by Asia Pacific organisations where 34 percent of companies planned to increase budgets in this area over the next two years.
