MyGov, gov headache…

The Digital Transformation Agency has revealed its three ‘Horizon’ releases for its MyGov platform.

Last week saw the existing MyGov website crumble under a deluge of Australian’s seeking information about Covid-19 government assistance with thousands unable to access the myGov portal to sign up for assistance.

Minister for Government Services Stuart Robert initially laid the blame on on DDoS attack. Hours later he was forced to change tack and admit that in fact, it was a simple case of the system not being able to cope.

“This will operate on a ‘Netflix’ model.”

Robert later tweeted that there had been 3.2 million logins to myGov in 20 hours and that capacity would continue to be progressively increased.

“No system is built to deal with the circumstances and events that we are now facing as a nation,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said. “We’ve gone from 6,000 to 50,000 to 150,000 all in the space of, a matter of a day.”Centrelink twitter post

Last week the Digital Transformation Agency held an industry briefing as it searches for a systems integrator with hosting and software partnerships to deliver the myGov update platform. The new ‘digital experience platform’, dubbed GovDXP, will provide government information and services across portfolios and jurisdictions, providing a single tailored view, integrated around life events such as having a baby or experiencing a natural disaster.

It will ‘will operate as an extension to, and in parallel with, my Gov’, the DTA says.

MyGov update dashboardA prototype showing the platform’s customer service and integrations capabilities has already been developed by Deloitte during a 90 day sprint, under a $1 million contract.

Meanwhile, the DTA briefing noted that ‘Horizon 0’ was released two weeks ago, applying the design elements of the project to the new Australia.gov.au coronavirus homepage.

Horizon 1 will see a new government platform developed to provide personalised content, with a web-based myGov inbox, opt-in notifications and login access to myGov to provide more customised content.

Horizon 2 will include a new front end with dashboard, profile, inbox and forms, along with content pages and notifications.

An integration layer will sit over the myGov systems enabling flow of information back and forth between the myGov website and myGov systems.

“The platform will collect services, apps and other customer experience capabilities to give users everything they need,” DTA says.

“This will operate on a ‘Netflix’ model, providing users with what they need to do next based on their previous interactions with government services – similar to Netflix’s ‘recommended for you’.

Work on the new version is planned to start July 1.
